The Michigan Education Association is now offering their 2017 MEA Scholarship. Check it out on the Scholarships page.
As of October 1, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available for families to complete for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year. The FAFSA is the only way to make yourself eligible for student loans, so even if you think you won’t qualify for any grants or scholarships, you still need to fill it out.
In order to begin the FAFSA process, you and a parent must both sign up for an FSA ID. This will be the number you use to access to your FAFSA as well as your student loan information from now through the life of the loan. It is also your electronic signature for submitting the FAFSA.
Have your personal information ready and visit https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm to create your FSA ID. (Make sure you save your information as you will not be able to access your FAFSA without it). Both you and a parent will need an ID number. It will take approximately 1-3 days to verify the information with the Social Security Administration and then you will be able to start and finish your FAFSA online. PLEASE NOTE: The FAFSA is always free so if you are on a website that is asking for money, you are on the WRONG site. The correct website for the FAFSA is www.fafsa.ed.gov.
If you need help, contact Mrs. Schwartz, the Financial Aid Department at the college/university you plan to attend, or call the number listed on the FAFSA help screen.
Scholarships for Leaders
You served on the student council, were a member of the honor society, led the band as a drum major, or were the captain of an athletic team. Leadership doesn’t end with high school, that was only the beginning. Central Michigan University offers more scholarships for leadership than any college or university in the Midwest.
THE LEADER ADVANCEMENT SCHOLARSHIPThe Leader Advancement Scholarship is awarded each year to 40 outstanding high school seniors who have distinguished themselves through a record of leadership and service. The scholarship provides $2,000 for each academic year. The four-year value of the scholarship is $8,000.
To be eligible for the Leader Advancement Scholarship you must have a 3.0 high school grade point average and be admitted to Central Michigan University.
Leader Advancement Scholars reside in the Leadership Residence Hall, Barnes Hall, enroll in general education courses with a leadership emphasis, and complete the Leader Advancement Scholarship Protocol.

Another scholarship opportunity has been posted. The Lake City Eagles are announcing their scholarship for area high school seniors. Many McBain students have won this scholarship in the past so make sure you fill out the application. There is a link on the Scholarship Page for you to download the application and mail it in. It will not take you very long to fill it out, so don’t pass this one up!
The University of Michigan is not really known for giving out a lot of scholarships, but this new scholarship may be helpful for anyone considering attending U of M next Fall. It is a $2500 scholarship and it appears to be automatically given to any accepted student from under-represented counties in Michigan (Missaukee, Osceola, and Wexford are on the list). Check it out on the Scholarships Page for more details.
Senior athletes! Check out the Wendy’s High School Heisman Scholarship that has just been posted on the Scholarships page. Applications are due by October 3 so don’t wait. If you are interested, apply now!

Attention Seniors! There has been a slight change with the Chemical Bank Scholarship. Any student who has previously applied for the Elenbaas Scholarship will automatically be eligible for the Chemical Bank Scholarship. If you did not apply for the Elenbaas Scholarship and would like to be eligible for the Chemical Bank Scholarship, please submit an application this week.
Seniors! We are looking for your honest, constructive feedback. I have attached two links below that will take you to a senior survey that we would greatly appreciate you taking. All responses will remain anonymous so you can feel free to provide us with your true experience(s) of high school. I would like each one of you to complete the survey BEFORE graduation. The first one will gather your contact information, which will only be used to send you a follow up survey next year. The other link is the actual survey. Your contact information will NOT be linked to you answers. Please take the time to fill this out. Thank you in advance!
