FAFSA Deadline is Approaching!

Seniors, if you haven’t already completed your FAFSA, you need to do so soon.  The priority deadline is March 1, 2017!

If you miss it, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still complete it.  You can still go online and fill out your FAFSA after March 1.  This is just a priority deadline, meaning those having completed the form by March 1 will have priority consideration for available funding.

FAFSA Step 1: Get Your FSA ID Number!

As of October 1, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available for families to complete for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year.  The FAFSA is the only way to make yourself eligible for student loans, so even if you think you won’t qualify for any grants or scholarships, you still need to fill it out.

In order to begin the FAFSA process, you and a parent must both sign up for an FSA ID.  This will be the number you use to access to your FAFSA as well as your student loan information from now through the life of the loan.  It is also your electronic signature for submitting the FAFSA.

Have your personal information ready and visit https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm to create your FSA ID.  (Make sure you save your information as you will not be able to access your FAFSA without it).  Both you and a parent will need an ID number.  It will take approximately 1-3 days to verify the information with the Social Security Administration and then you will be able to start and finish your FAFSA online.  PLEASE NOTE:  The FAFSA is always free so if you are on a website that is asking for money, you are on the WRONG site.  The correct website for the FAFSA is www.fafsa.ed.gov.

If you need help, contact Mrs. Schwartz, the Financial Aid Department at the college/university you plan to attend, or call the number listed on the FAFSA help screen.
